Why electricians choose engraved labels
A switchboard is hot, dusty and often outdoors. Engraved two-colour labels (often called Traffolyte) keep their text for years, where stickers and printed labels can peel and fade. See Traffolyte labels for the materials and colours.
Not sure what has to be labelled? Read the labelling requirements by industry, including the differences between states, and the standards behind them. The guidance is a guide only: the installer remains responsible for following the current standard and local network rules.
Questions about electrical labels
What labels do I need on a switchboard?
Circuits, main switches and isolators need clear identification, and solar, battery and generator supplies have extra labelling rules that differ by state and network. See our labelling requirements by industry for the detail, and always check the current standard and your network's rules for your installation.
Why use engraved labels instead of printed ones?
Engraved text is cut into the label, so it does not peel, fade or rub off in a hot, dusty or outdoor switchboard. Printed labels suit short-term use.
Can I get labels for solar and battery systems?
Yes. The compliance kits include main switch, isolator, warning and battery labels with the wording each Australian state asks for, and blank lines you can fill in later for ratings and locations.
Can I order labels numbered in sequence?
Yes. The custom designer builds numbered series for circuits and cables, and you can import a whole schedule from a spreadsheet.
What if I only need a few labels?
You can order any quantity. The 800 label kit is for people who label many boards, and every compartment can be changed.
